I've bought a new puppy...
A springer spaniel. She's not old enough to leave her mother yet but I don't think I've felt so excited (child births aside) since I found a Deluxe Subbuteo set in the airing cupboard when I was 7, and realising that it was my Christmas present and I'd have it in a couple of days.

I've had a Springer before and they're hard work as puppies, but they grow into the kindest, most lovely species of any kind.

Maybe it’s a language thing Boots, hand him over to your neighbour Wehn and all will be ok.

Wouldn’t be without a dog, wonderful creatures; bring a lot of joy and happiness to a home.

Current hound is an RSPCA rescue, got her at 6 months, she had been left chained up in an flat by junkies, luckily neighbours heard her crying and she was saved, fuck knows what breed she is, seems to have bit of every small breed you could imagine, 5kg of energy and happiness though and fighting fit at 10 years old.

Burns, very funny !

I think he's confused, we got him at 6 months from a Spanish rescue centre.

He's a proper hunting dog, permanently on the sniff.

Follows you around the house

LeroysBoots

I have a 1 yr old wire haired vizsla. Another one of the HPR breeds.

He can still be a fucking nightmare at times.

Getting better slowly as he gets older.

As long as he has a decent run in the morning he is good for the day.

Definitely hard work but would not be without him now.

I suspect that is what Vexed means by needy people have dogs. I'm not an animal person so never had a dog, but certainly understand why many like them, although some owners don't seem to never pay their dog any attention or love, so have to wonder why the fuck they buy one? I had a goldfish once and still haven't got over finding it dead in it's bowl one morning :-(

A goldfish (RIP) is hardly the same as a dog.

Re: I've bought a new puppy...
What I find unpleasant about dogs is that they go around all day sniffing or licking each other's arses, licking their own genitalia and when the owners see them they let the dirty things lick their face. Is this a sign that the owners are just filth, or some kind of unresolved sexual issue.

Disgusting creatures, the dogs are too.

Re: I've bought a new puppy...
After years and I mean years of the kids going on at me to get a dog, I gave in and we got a cockapoo puppy recently. She was the most loving dog you could have, however …..

We lasted 15 days, the smell of dog, crate in the house, digging up the garden, biting the sofa, crapping, wee, restricting where we could go and how long we could be out did us in. My advice, don’t do it, if you want a pet, get a goldfish, cheaper and less hassle. She’s been sold on to another family who love her to bits, but for us, never again

Lots of new dogs near me.
People who have been at home for the last 16 months walking little FIDO & giving them lots of attention.
Wonder how many will last once people start going back to work.

Re: I've bought a new puppy...
Raised 3 kids and successfully launched them into independent and self-supporting adulthood.

The very last thing I want is another bunch of self-imposed restrictions on my life.

The kids mother nagged & nagged me for a dog - even convincing the kids we should get one "to be a proper family". I eventually relented after another series of cock & bull from her but it was probably the final nail in the coffin for my marriage.

Stank the place out within days of arriving - was almost retching every time I came home.

Thing is, the bloody thing adored me.

Followed me everywhere when I was at home, even though it was intended to be for the kids and their mother.

To make matters worse (for her) apparently it moped around the place all day while I wasn't there and only perked up on my arrival home.

No matter how I tried to gently discourage the animal, and get others to give it more attention, if I was there, it was stuck to me like glue.
